Transit at Tokyo Narita International Airport, Japan

Filed Under (Shopping, Tokyo, Travelling, World Souvenirs) by Janet on 06-02-2009

I was watching the touching Movie “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” half way when our flight Captain announces that we’ll be touching down at Tokyo-Narita, Japan. And as I look out of our flight window, I catch a glimpse of a beautiful SNOW-caped Mountain in the near distance - “Could that be Mount Fuji?!!” I wonder as I immediately bring out my camera to snap the following pic :

Mount Fuji of Japan

Kon-nichiwa Japan (Hello Japan) - I’ve long wanted to see you in person & here I am coming really close to you!! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve heard stories & seen the Travelling Photos of Mom & Dad in amazing you & I’ve often dreamed of visiting you personally too, & though today it’s but only a short Transit Stop for me with you, I’m more than glad & as excited as ever!!

I stare anxiously out of my flight window as I catch more glimpses of beautiful Japan Island down below :

YES YES our flight has finally landed at Tokyo Narita International Airport at local time about 1.30pm (an hour ahead of Singapore).

Our next connecting flight from Tokyo is to Minnesota, USA & it takes off in 1 hr 45 mins at 3.15pm (local Japanese time). And our checked-in Travelling Luggages from Singapore will be automatically transferred to our connecting flight too - how convenient!!

And as Dear & I walk out of our plane to the Immigration Checkpoint via the Airport connecting passageway, we feel extreme shivering cold from the outside as it’s 8 degrees celsius right now in winter Japan!!!

And of course it’s shopping time now for me inside the Airport for all things Japanese Japanese!! Heheh I’m really excited & happy!!

My first stop - the following NAA Retailing Fa-So-La Tax Free Souvenir Shop - the first Shop we see upon stepping out of the Japanese Immigration Checkpoint :

Japanese NAA Retailing Fa-So-La Tax Free Souvenir Shop at Tokyo Narita International Airport, Japan

And without much hesitation I go straight hunting for Japanese Souvenir Magnets :

And here I’ve got the following Souvenir Magnets to add on to my World Souvenir Magnets Collection :

Handmade Japanese Kokeshi (or Doll) Souvenir Magnet :

And for my above purchases, I got the following Shopping Bags :

NAA Retailing Souvenir Shop Plastic Bags from Tokyo Narita International Airport & Duty Free Shop Guide from Tokyo Narita International Airport, Japan

Dear & I paid for my Souvenir Magnets in US dollars as we’ve no Japanese Yen, & cos the Retail Shop has not enough US coins, we were given Japanese Yen Coins instead - heheh I really like the Hole-in-the-Middle Coins - really interesting like the ancient Chinese Coins :

Now, there’re also the following Japanese Sushi Souvenir Magnets - hmm……….they look pretty fantastic & interesting from the below photo I took, but in actual fact, they look very fake & don look nice at all when you look closely at them in the Shop itself, & I suspect these are made in China instead of Japan, so I get none of them from here :

And another reason for not getting any of the above Sushi Souvenir Magnets is cos I’ve got 2 really looking REAL & DELICIOUS Japanese Ebi & Egg Sushi Souvenir Magnets which I got my good friend (Guat Tzin) from Uni (back in Geelong, Victoria Australia) to help buy for me during her travelling in Japan 2 years ago.

And hey these are MADE in JAPAN alright!!

Now, don you think these 2 Sushi Souvenir Magnets of mine are much much nicer than the ones in the Shop above?!!!

My REAL & DELICIOUS LOOKING Japanese Ebi Souvenir Magnet - heheh this’s my most favourite Sushi (cos I love shrimps!!) & now it’s looking so good I wana eat it up right now right here!!!

My Japanese Egg Sushi Souvenir Magnet :

Hahaha my good friend Guat Tzin was really clever to have got me this Japanese Egg Sushi Souvenir Magnet as well cos this is Dear’s all time favourite Sushi!! I remember Guat Tzin told me that there were other more Sushi Souvenir Magnets besides these 2 Egg & Ebi ones but they were not nice looking at all except these 2 - & they so happen to be Dear & my favourite Sushi heheh!!!

Now I must really thank Guat Tzin once & tens of times again for buying me my Japanese Ebi & Egg Sushi Souvenir Magnets cos I’m always feeling happy whenever I look at them……….& I always look at them whenever I miss or CRAVE for Sushi too…………but then I don know if I’m feeling happy or sad then cos these 2 Ebi & Egg Sushi look so like the real Sushi that I wish I can bite into them………yet I can’t………..yet they’re so beautiful & so REAL & DELICIOUS looking………..yummy yummy…………

Wow Wow the many different types of Japanese Sweets, Chocolates & Cakes at each & every corner of the Sweets Shop really tempt me so much to buy but Dear advises that we should only buy upon our return from the USA since we’ll be coming back here again.

Thus, after browsing through the Shop & satisfying myself with the many photos taken of the so many fancilful gift boxes above, I chance upon the following Japanese Kaizo-Sha Newstand while waiting for Dear outside the Restroom :

And of course here’re the NOT to be missed Japanese Comics :

I’ve hereby done a Slideshow of all my photos taken at the Tokyo Narita International Airport, inclusive of the very famous Japanese Sailor Moon Theme Song - have fun :

And I’ve also included a Slideshow of my whole Japan Souvenir Magnets Collection - brought home by family & friends & now myself heheh!! Hope you enjoy them as much as I’ve always treasured them :))
