Surrounded by mountains & deserts, the Oasis of Dunhuang was a Welcome Haven for the ancient Travellers through the Silk Road of China - offering fresh water & food supplies especially fresh fruits such as Melons & Grapes which were great treats for the weary & thirsty Travellers whose diets consisted mostly of hard bread, cheese, salted meat & water.
In fact, Dunhuang was called “Gua Zhou” (”Gua” meaning “Melon” & “Zhou” meaning “Desert“) meaning “Hometown of Fruits” filled with excellent sweet fragrant fruits in Ancient Silk Road……………
The Public Toilet (Gong Ce) which we’d just visited was by far the worst Toilet we’d been & seen travelling here in the Silk Road of China hahha!!
It was dark & cramped & so dirty & stinky inside too bad I couldn’t manage to snap some pics of it cos I just wanted to get out of there fastest & quickest!!
Whoa there’re even locally grown Nuts available here at the Fruits Stalls :
We soon leave the Fruits Stalls feeling most glad that we got the chance to stop by here for a most localised feel & touch of the famous Dunhuang Fruits scene & tasting the rich juicy sweet Artillery Shell & Changmihong Melons, plus the various locally grown Nuts!!
Happy that we got to see the Great Wall of Dunhuang - though now damaged & ruined, it was afterall part of the world-famous Great Wall of China!
