Enjoying Delicious Thai Fusion Cuisines at Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant in Chiang Mai – North Thailand
Filed Under (Chiang Mai, Cuisines, North Thailand, Travelling) by Janet on 29-08-2008
We’ve now arrived at the Thai Cuisine Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant, located in Bumrungroj Road, Chiang Mai. Dalaabaa being the name of a Flower in Chiang Mai.
Map of Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant :
Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant is located well back at a road away from traffic noise, with a large parking space infront. And here we are at the Bar & Restaurant’s entrance, with a staircase lined with neat Willow trees :
We’re greeted by an elegantly dressed Thai staff at the top of the staircase, & upon entering the compound of the Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant, we’re pleasantly surprised to see a huge beautiful glass-sided bungalow!
We can then choose to either walk on the round stepping-stones laid out in the reflecting pond infront of the bungalow, or walk around by the pond’s side, to enter the Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant.
And of course, I desire to walk on the stones!! But be real careful or you may easily fall into the pond anytime!!
Now, here are some photos of the sleek & classy Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant from the exterior :
And once we step into the Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant, we see a most fabulous setting in low lights & ruby-red color scheme, & modern sophisticated design & deco with very comfortable couches & sofas, projecting romance & beautiful ambiance.
We can choose to dine inside the air-conditioned lounge, or al fresco, & cos we’re concerned with mosquito bites, we decide to dine inside at one of the lovely candle-lit tables, with beautiful soft music in the background.
Here below is the charming Menu of the Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant :
And our beautiful fine Thai Cuisines with a hint of Fusion dinner kicks off with the most amazing deep fried Spring Rolls with fillings of Crab Meat, with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce for the dip. Looking like thin Breadsticks, these super tiny fried Spring Rolls are so crispy & tastiest we all enjoy them so much!!
Next is our most beautifully presented Dalaabite Shrimps Starter :
Raw Shrimps wrapped with Salmons each garnished with a slice of Lemon & Mint Leaf, & sitting on a Orange slice, all poked together with a rose-covered tootpick.
And there’s a separate Chili Sauce (which tastes like the Chicken Rice Chili Sauce we have in Singapore) that we pour over the Shrimps -these Shrimp appetizers are simply fresh & gorgeous!!
Here we have our soury spicy Seafood Salad of fresh half raw Shrimps & Calamari, Golden Mushrooms, Baby Tomatoes, sliced Carrots & Onions & Thai Coriander Leaves & Lettuce on the side – very appetizing & delicious!
Then we’re served our very fragrant high-quality Thai White Rice contained in lovely huge covered Bowls :
Next comes our bowl of Tom Yam Gung with large deveined Shrimps, Fish, Calamari, Mushrooms, Baby Tomatoes, Coriander Leaves, Lime Leaves, Lemon Grass etc – the ingredients are all very fresh & the soup is exotically tasty!
See the small bowl of Green Chilies with Garlics in sauce below – that’s a popular Thai Chili Sauce called ”Nam Prik“, & it’s really good!
Our smaller bowls of the flavourable Tom Yum Gung :
Below is another of our most favourite of all times – Thai Deep Fried Fish (called “Pla Thod” in Thai), garnished with fried Basil Leaves & Red Chili slices, & stalks of fresh Green Peppercorns, with a pool of fresh Salad & 2 small saucers of Thai Chili Sauce on the sides.
Already cut into smaller pieces, the Fish is most crispiest & most marvelicious!!
And the following is our plate of yummy stir-fry Kang Kong with Garlics – Dad says the Kang Kong served in the Northern Thailand are the young ones cos they’re very smooth & crunchy & much tastier, unlike the older tougher ones! No wonder we never get tired of eating the kang Kong here in the North!
Our next Cuisine is Deep Fried Thai Kampong Chicken (Chicken being called “Kai” in Thai) :
These Chicken are very well fried, but they are too salty & some of the pieces taste kinda strange & funny cos they have a bad foul smell. So our Thai friend requests the Restaurant to change our dish.
We have to wait for a while for our new plate of Fried Chicken………in the meantime, we chit chat & have our tea & drinks & enjoy the soothing music going on around us in the posh dining room - here below is my glass of Ice Lemon Tea with Lemon Slice :
Finally, our Deep Fried Chicken (“Kai” in Thai) is served to us – with lots of fresh Green Peppercorns, fried Garlic gloves, fried Red Chili Slices & Salads. However, this time our Chickens are not the small Thai Kampong Chicken parts that we like & initially ordered, but Chicken Drumlets.
And well, these Chicken Drumlets have no foul smell or are they too salty, but they’re well marinated & taste great! And the huge fried Red Chili slices are really tasty too – it’s my first time eating such yummy fried Chilies!!
And I especially love the very cruncy slightly spicy Green Peppercorns, seen here below sitting among the deep fried Garlic gloves etc!!
Well, we’ve now completed our fine Thai Cuisines & cos we already have plans for our after-dinner & to save time, we decide not to have any desserts but ask for the bill.
We’re now walking out of the Dalaabaa Bar & Restaurant :
And here below are the stepping-stones on the reflecting pond outside the Restaurant. However this time, I choose to walk around the pond on its sidewalk cos of the dimming lights……….
What a delighful evening we just had in such a high-class so tastefully decorated & designed Northern Thai Bar & Restaurant!
We’ve to specially thank our Thai friend for bringing us to such a wonderful awesome place, & for introducing us such a lovely dining experience – It’s a place that I will long remember
