Dear Enjoying Chinese Tibetan Massage in Beijing, China

Filed Under (Beijing, China, Shopping, Travelling, World Souvenirs) by Janet on 29-05-2008

It’s finally massage time - we arrived at the “Dong Tai Yang Sheng China” - a Tibetan Medicine Centre where we would be given free Massages (”An Mou” in Chinese) - complimentary of our Tour agency!

Just great, since we’ve had a long long day today - from Jade hunting to visiting the Great Wall of China, to Changling Tomb & Hutongs tour then to Beihai Park!! Wow that’s really alot of walking today!! Plus yesterday too from touring the Summer Palace to the Forbidden City to Tiananmen Square!! We really really needed a Foot Massage!!

Unfortunately for me, I had to miss my Massage as I was wearing tights (Yep - my red tights as you could see from so many of my earlier photos) cos I was too tired & lazy to take them off for the Massage then having to put them back on again after the Massage - if only our tour guide Wang Jing has told us yesterday then I would have not worn today’s outfit with my tights! But it was alright for me cos I enjoyed myself very much taking photos of Dear being massaged!!

Well, we were first brought to be seated in a private room & the Massage session started off with a long Introduction of the Tibetan Medicines by the Centre Manager. Then it was followed by the Foot Massage (YES finally!!). Firstly, Dear had to soak his feets into the Wooden tub of some kind of very very Hot Herbal water to sooth & relax his feets for about 10 min. And Dear took a pretty long time to finally immerse his 2 feets fully into the Hot water!! It was so funny just watching his “Feeling so so Pain it’s so so Hot!!” expressions!! Then a young disciple boy came in to wipe dry Dear’s feets & started massaging them, one leg after another. Again, I was happily snapping away photos of Dear in “pain” while he was being massaged & me having a good laugh over him!!

In-between Dear’s massage, as well as my short neck & shoulders massage by a young disciple girl, a elderly Chinese Physician (”Jiao Shou”) came into our room to examine our palms - & he did only just that! Dear & I were a little surprised cos Chinese physicians usually feel our wrists, but guess it was different being Tibetan! But he seemed to be reading our palms & studying the lines of our palms just like a Fortune Teller (”Shuan Ming Ren” in Chinese), except that he used a magnifying Glass - It was all kinda strange to us!

Anyway, the Jiao Shou did gave us some medicine prescriptions after examining our Palms, & even drew some pictures of how I could have my foot massaged on my own at home! However, we did not purchase any of the medicines which he prescribed, nor did we buy the Tibetan Healing Oil which his disciples recommended us during Dear’s Massage.

Guess if I’ve had my Foot Massage I wouldn’t be able to take as many nice photos as below (in the Slideshow). Have fun watching the rather pain streaking face expressions of Dear while he has his feets immersed in the tub of Hot water & while he was being massaged!! And I’ve included soothing music to go along with the photos - hope u can relax a little too!!

A Massage Tip :

Don sleep while being massaged cos that will slow down our blood circulations which is not healthy.
