Dear & I are now seated inside our Chinese Driver Sifu’s car on our way to Lunch!! Clever Dear even bought a bottle of Coke before we boarded Sifu’s car so that we could drink it on the way, & we both love Coke!! And China’s cold Coke is pretty good!!! And YES!! you must have guessed it right by now - we would be having Peking Duck (or Roast Duck) for lunch - Beijing’s Speciality Cuisine - a dish we’d long awaited for & dreamed of ever since we arrived in Beijing!
The following Slideshow contains photos taken from inside Sifu’s car to the Restaurant - “Bai Wei Xiang Chun - Long Tang Kao Ya Dian” - meaning “Hundred Flavours Village - Dragon Palace Peking Duck Restaurant”.
Name Cards of Bai Wei Xiang Chun - Long Tang Kao Ya Dian” - meaning “Hundred Flavours Village - Dragon Palace Peking Duck Restaurant :

It’s a beautiful traditional very homely Restaurant with wooden beams & wooden decorations, wooden tables & wooden chairs - we immediately felt very good once stepping inside! And there was even a small Souvenirs Store inside the Restaurant, but this time I was more interested in the Peking Duck!!
Our first dish for lunch was stir-fry Cabbage - simply cooked but very fresh!
Rice was next of course - the Chinese can’t do without Rice or Bao (meaning Buns) in every meal!
Stir-fry sliced Bamboo Shoots with sliced Pork & Carrots - very Yummy!
Roast Duck Soup with Bean Curds & Vegetables - very tasty!
Stir-fry Celeries with Garlic & Carrots - really nice!!
Steamed Chicken in Sesame Oil & Soy Sauce - very homely & delicious!!
Now, here come our Signature Dish of the day - the famous Peking Duck (or Beijing Roast Duck)!!
Just a short introduction about Peking Duck - Peking Duck has been prepared since the Yuan Dynasty. Duck has been roasted in China since the Southern & Northern Dynasties, & Peking Duck was first prepared for the Emperor of China in the Yuan Dynasty. The Dish, originally named “Shaoyazi” (meaning “Smoked Duck”), was mentioned in the “Complete Recipes for Dishes & Beverages” manual by an Inspector of the Imperial Kitchen in 1330. In the Ming Dynasty, Peking Duck was one of main dishes on the Imperial Court Menus. In 1416, the first Restaurant, specialising in Peking Duck, was established in the Xianyukou, Qianmen area of Beijing. By the Qianlong Period (1736-1796) of the Qin Dynasty, the popularity of Peking Duck had spread to the upper classes, inspiring poetry from Poets & Scholars who enjoyed the dish. By mid 20th Century, Peking Duck had become a National Symbol of China, well-known & well-favoured by world tourists!
Now, let’s watch the following Slideshow on our Restaurant Chef carving our Peking Duck (Roast Duck) right infront of us by the side of our dining table!
We were first served the following plate of thin Pancakes, as well as a plate of strips of Cucumbers & Spring Onions, & Sweet Sauce too :
It was really interesting watching the Restaurant Chef skilfully carved our Peking Duck…….slice by slice……..while we were drooling all the time haha………till 2 plates of it were finally served to us on the table heehee!!
Holding a piece of the Pancakes on our palm, we first spreaded some of the Sweet Sauce onto the Pancake.
Then we added a few strips of the Cucumbers & Spring Onions, wrapped them together & ate them!! WEW….it was so Shiok!! So deliciously Shiok!!!
The skin of the Peking Duck was aromatic crispy & not too oily, the Sweet Sauce was tasty, the Pancake was just nice & not too thick, & the Cucumbers & Spring Onions were just so crunchy & fresh - the whole combination was just heavenly paradise!!
No wonder the ancient Poets & Scholars could even create beautiful Poems just by eating Peking Duck!! Dear & I just loved it so much!!!
The following is a Slideshow of the photos of our deliciously yummy Peking Duck cuisine :
Dear & I ate so well & so much & so full for the Lunch, sparing not a single piece of the Peking Duck at all!! The Restaurant was really cool with such great food too - all the Chinese Cuisines were great, & the Peking Duck was greatly the best!! Even the plate of Mandarin Slices & Apples to end our hearty lunch was presented so beauitfully to us - our best Fruits platter in Beijing so far - & our best Meal in Beijing thus far!
