Dear & I Enjoying Beijing Bird Nest in China

Filed Under (Beijing, China, Travelling, World Souvenirs) by Janet on 29-05-2008

“Bird Nest Bird Nest that’s the Bird Nest!!!” Dear & I shouted as we saw the Beijing Bird Nest while seated in Sifu’s car, & I started taking photos of it even before Sifu stopped the car to let us down!

YES, the Beijing 2008 Olympics is fast approaching on 8 Aug 2008! Shaped like the Bird Nest, thus the name - the Beijing Bird Nest (“Nia Wo” in Chinese) is China’s newly built National Stadium! And today, it’s the pride & STAR of the whole China & all Chinese!

Dear & I had wanted to see the Beijing Bird Nest very much, had wanted  to visit the interior, touch & feel the walls a little, walk around inside for a while, stand or sit on the field etc etc – if not just be much much nearer to it than this rather unexpected “visit” being it so far beyond our reach – Hahah it was really ”so Near yet so Far” - that was exactly how we felt then!

But our tour guide Wang Jing said the Bird Nest was not completed yet, so no tourists was allowed to enter yet! Guess it was true ha, since it was officially completed only on 28 June – way after we were back home from there!

We were rather disappointed but anyway, Dear & I finally got down from Sifu’s car to stand by the roadside where the Bird Nest was just “behind” us across the busy road!! And Wang Jing took 2 photos of Dear & I together with the Bird Nest – heehee we finally could have some photos of ourselves with the world famous historic Olympics Stadium!!

Actually we were on our way to the dinning Restaurant & Wang Jing kept urshering us to be faster faster!! So we walked quickly along the side lane of the road towards the Restaurant, & at the same time taking every opportunities to take as many photos of the Bird Nest & the surrounding as possible!

We saw the Olympics Water Centre (or National Aquatics Centre), called the Water Cube, which is near the Bird Nest. And guess what, the Water Cube could actually light up in different colors every few seconds!! At first we still thought our eyes were playing tricks on us, then we stood still & watched it till it changed from color to color, shinning like a water cube - it was really beautiful!! And there was also a Beijing Olympics Countdown Clock among patches of colorful fresh flowers towards the end of the Lane just before we reached our Restaurant (which I’ll post on another entry after this).

I’ve put below a Slideshow of all the photos we took, including other pictures I found of the Bird Nest, Water Cube & the Beijing Olympics Logos, Torch & Mascots, as well as my Crystal Beijing Bird Nest Souvenir which lights up in Red & Blue colors :

Inclusive in the Slideshow is also an amazingly beautiful Beijing Olympics song video entitled “Beijing Welcomes You” (“Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni” in Chinese, with English Subtitles), so you may wana watch the video itself without my photos (after seeing my photos first ok heehee!!) – Hope you’ll like it as much as I love it!
