Back in Mae Sai - Thailand
Filed Under (Chiang Rai, Cuisines, Shopping, Travelling, World Souvenirs) by Janet on 28-08-2008
Mom, Dad, my brother & our Thai friend & I are now on our way back to Thailand from Myanmar, crossing the Thai Burmese border :
We’re now looking at the very dark yellowish Mae Sai River bordering Thailand & Myanmar :
Thailand is on the right side of the River, & Myanmar is on its left :
We’re now overlooking the other side of the Mae Sai River across the Thailand Myanmar border Bridge on which we’re crossing right now in No Man’s Land :
We’re fast approaching Thailand now - here below photos show the Thailand Flag & the huge White with Golden designs Thai arch with written Thai & English words saying “Welcome to Thailand - the Northern Most of Thailand” :
Now we can see clearly the Thai Boundary Post - Mae Sai Customs House to which we’re walking towards - & again we see many old & young & even baby beggars here to whom (especially the young kids) I’d wanted to give some money, but I’d been prewarned not to, & I just walk past them :((
We arrive at the below Thai Immigration office at the Boundary Post - Mae Sai Customs House & the below photo shows the border crossing into Mae Sai - Thailand from Myanmar. But no, we’re not supposed to go through here like these motorists :
Instead, we’ve to go through the below PASSPORT CONTROL counters which are to the left side of the above crossing - we then show our photocopy passports to the Thai officer at the counter but somehow he never really looks at them but just let us pass :
Now, we’re officially back in Thailand, at the border town of Mae Sai, & we’re collecting back our 4 Singaporen & 1 Thai passports from the below Thai immigration office :
Below shows 2 Signboards with Thai wordings which I’ve no idea what they’re all about - guess they must be some rules & regulations about the Thai immigration for the Thai & Burmese travellers :
While waiting for my brother & our Thai friend to go pick up our car, Mom & Dad are avoiding the hot sun by staying under shades at the Thai immigration office :
Below are the samples of Thai Departure Cards from the Thai Immigration Bureau which are pasted & shown on the above table (with green legs) beside Dad :
Here we can see Burmese women walking towards the Thai immigration about to cross over to Myanmar :
And below 3 photos show the busy Thailand Myanmar border crossing under the Boundary Post - Mae Sai Customs House :
This following photo of beautiful blue white sky with the rather busy wide road below is the Mae Sai border town (or trading town) which is the view seen from where we are at the Thai immigration office :
See the below buidling where there’s a lobg huge white Banner with red Thai wordings - that’s the place where we had our Passports photostated this morning before we went over to Myanmar, & I guess that’a also the area where the Thai Departure Cards etc are given out for the travellers to fill in :
Now, Mom, Dad & I decide to take a walk to the below Mae Sai street stalls :
We’re now standing around the street vendors overlooking the Boundary Post - Mae Sai Customs House :
Thai Fruits Stalls with Fried Fish with Green Vegetables & some kind of steamed Mee Hoon Stall beside :
Thai Boiled Sausages & Balls & types of Snack Skewers Stall :
Then we meet a Burmese or Thai vendor who come trying to sell us her Nuts which she says will make our faces smooth & beautiful (in some form of Hokkien) :
Thai Deep Fried Chickens Stall :
Mmmmm - my favourite Thai Deep Fried Chicken - too bad Dad says it’s not hygienic to eat cos the stall stands by the roadside :
Hmm…..just look at these Chicken Wings - they sure look delicious!! If only Dad’s not around with me, I’ll definitely buy some - the most I’ll get the Thai vendor to fry new ones for me - then they’ll be hygienic enough for me since the boiling hot oil will kill all the gems that they may have!!
Thai Roasted Chestnuts Stall :
Mom’s buying a packet of Chestnuts too!
We’re now just standing around the Street stalls waiting for my brother & our Thai friend to come pick us up in the car.
And hey, here they come…….I’ll see you again soon!!
