An American Dream Come True
Filed Under (Cuisines, Singapore, Travelling, USA) by Janet on 06-02-2009
Dear & I are travelling again – this time to faraway America!! Hippie Hurrays!! Our dream of visiting the United States of America is coming true real real soon!!!
Great THANKS to Dear’s employer for sponsoring him on this trip to the SolidWorks World 2009 Conference in the USA – (Solidworks is a 3D CAD Design Software) & me tagging along for fun, food, culture, beauty, love & lots lots more – fulfilling both Dear & my long-awaited DREAM of visiting America together!!
Our hearts had been anxiously beating real real fast way before our trip has been confirmed cos first of all, being a Permanent Resident living in Singapore as a Malaysian, Dear has to apply for an American Visa before he’s being allowed into the Land of Freedom – for this application, he had to fill in some forms (which can be downloaded online at the Embassy of the United States – Singapore Website) to be submitted together with a photograph as well as his Passport, & make an appointment for a face-to-face Interview at the US Embassy in Singapore.
The day of Dear’s Interview at the US Embassy finally came when he was asked a couple of questions such as “Why is he going to America”, “How long will he be staying there”, “And that his wife is going with him right?” – & well, the Interview was over in no less than 5 mins & he was told on the spot that his VISA has been approved!! WOW WOW that simple & Dear’s American Dream is surely coming true heheh!!
The following is Dear’s United States of America Visa – valid for 10 long years!!
As for myself, I’m a Singaporean & I remember I used to have to go through similar Visa application & Interview (like Dear) at the US Embassy in Singapore 17 years ago when I first went to America. However, it’s much more convenient now cos Singaporeans now fall under the US Visa Waiver Program, & I need to only apply for an online Authorisation (at the ESTA – Electronic System for Travel Authorisation Website - However, do note that one needs to be carrying a Biometric Passport in order to be eligible for this authorisation).
With both Dear’s US Visa & my online ESTA application approved, we happily went to the Bank & Money-changer to convert our local dollars to American Notes – can’t do much without much though cos the currency exchange rate is US$1 to S$1.515 – really high!!

And here’s the Meiji Strawberry Yoghurt with hot English Tea :
It’s now our most favourite time during flying – watching Inflight Entertainment Movies :
I chose to watch the Hollywood Hits Movie titled “Body of Lies” – an Action Adventure Drama Suspense Thriller about a CIA Operative who goes to Jordan in the Middle East to track a high-ranking Terrorist – great movie :
And then it’s time for Snack – lovely Croissant with Ham, Cheese & Lettuce with Mayonnaise Sauce & Pepsi :
Our flight from Singapore to Tokyo-Nartita, Japan is about 6 hours 45 mins so there’s ample time for sleep, eat, movie, sleep eat & movie again, this time my pick is “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” – about an 9-year-old boy named Bruno who befriended a Jewish boy from the Nazi Concentration Camp in the countryside of Berlin – a Movie about prejudice, hatred & violence affecting innocent people – really saddening :
Well, here’s the end of my very first post on my travelling to America – fulfilling my Dream of revisiting the beautiful land once again – & the following’s my Slideshow of all photos taken at Changi Airport & in the Air created just for you!
- Believe in the POWER of the Dream in you cos DREAMS Can COME True – indeed it’s An American Dream Come True for Dear & I
