Now, let me introduce you to the following Xinjiang Uygur Zhuafan (in Chinese literally meaning “Grabbed Rice“) – which is Rice cooked with fresh muttons, onions, carrots, vegetable oil & melted Sheep’s Fat. Raisins & almonds are also added for flavouring, & as its name suggests, one usually eats with hands, & this popular Xinjiang Cuisine is a MUST at Xinjiang Festivals & Wedding Banquets.   

Look at these beautiful Jade Bracelets, Bangles & Stones from the Silk Road of China – I’m extremely excited as I so speak now heheheeee!!!

And of course I immediately got myself a lovely Thick White Jade Bangle – hahhahaaa I bought this fast & quick unlike the long hours of Green Jade Bangle Hunting which I did for my sister back in Beijing!!!!

Hmm what wonderful great time I’ve just had enjoying the local day & Night Markets here in Lovely Burqin along the Silk Road of China, & with such beautiful Souvenirs to bring home

I’m now showing you my very 1st lunch here in Xi’an of Shaanxi, China after visiting Huaqing Pond (Huaqing Hot Springs) before visiting Musiem of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors & Horses on my 2nd Day of Mysterious Silk Road Tour, where I’ve pretty delicious Xi’an Cuisines :

It’s my very 1st time tasting the Chinese Freshwater Fish which has many Bones that can be real killing (stuck in throats!!) for people who’re not careful when eating them - luckily for me I’ve heard many stories from Mom & Dad about these Fish so I’m extremely tactful & only take exremely tiny bits of the Fish to try!!

Here’s when I see more Bing Ma Yong - Terra Cotta Warriors & Horses on sales, which our Xi’an Chinese Tour Guide advises us not to buy cos most of them are fake as can been seen in their unnatural colors etc :

My paternal 4th Auntie (whom I call “Si Kor” in Hokkien) who’s travelling with us, just gave my brother-in-law Ah Hia & I a freshest huge Pomegranate which she purchased from the Fruits Stall :

It’s now time to travel to the Xi’an Train Station where we’ll board our Mysterious Silk Road Deluxe Express Train…………

The Xi’an Train Station is packed with many people (tourists as well as locals) as we all wait in line for our arriving Trains………..

After about an hour later, our Silk Road Deluxe Express Train (Oriental Express) arrives & we’re led by our Xi’an Chinese Tour Guide to our designated Train Cabins, after walking a pretty long way from the Train Station up an Overhead Bridge & then down the Bridge towards our parked Train – all in all carrying our own Travelling Hand-Luggages with us……….& at the same time facing a huge commotion as there’re more than 200 of us alone (from Singapore, Malayasia & Hong Kong!) travelling on the same Silk Road Deluxe Express Train leaving Xi’an, China tonight!!!

Finally here I am settling down inside our extremely small Cabin of the Mysterious Silk Road Deluxe Express Train (Oriental Express)………..

After yet another 45mins later after our Train departs Xi’an in Shaanxi, China – our other Huge Travelling Luggages arrive before us – these we need not carry up & down the Train Station & Overhead Bridge earlier with us but are taken care of by our China Express Holidays Tour managment here in China……….

But Aahahhahaah we’ve a good laugh cos there’s practically NO MORE ROOM for walking or even standing (except to jump on top of our Beds!!) when all our Huge Luggages arrive here inside our Train Cabin!!!

Well, below pic shows Ah Hia seated along the narrow Corridor outside our Train Cabin where Ah Hia & I put our Huge Travelling Luggages to allow space inside our Cabin for our 2 Auntie Bunkmates to unpack…………….

Ahahah WHAT a Surprise WHAT a Surprise!!! Our Bunkmates & Ah Hia & I couldn’t stop laughing over how extremely tiny our Train Cabin is cos we’d been told how big & luxurious it’d be before we came here!!

But may be these standards are already considered the best here in the Silk Road for the Chinese huh! Or may be we’re just expecting too much too much!!

But still, we’re laughing when we start imaging we’ve to be in our extremely small Cabin for more nights & days to come travelling here in the Silk Road from Xi’an, Shaanxi in China ahahahah!!!

The day has finally come for us to fly to Hong Kong again!! Dear & I had been to Beijing (via Hong Kong) 6 days ago, & on our 7th day morning, we were supposed to fly to Hong Kong.

Both Dear & I were kinda sleepy looking cos we had only slept for 2 – 3 hours the night before packing our luggages, watching TV & chit chatting about our Beijing trip till almost dawn!! And we had to rise & be ready for checkout at 4.30am haha!!

Me (wearing my new Black velvet with shinning beads shoes from my shopping last night!!) with our Beijing tour guide Wang Jing at the Changfeng Hotel lobby – Wang Jing kept commenting what a beautiful pretty dress I was wearing when she first saw me in the lobby, & she even immediately told our Chinese driver Sifu about it & told him to look at my dress!! Haha it was she was so cute!!

In fact, Wang Jing also ommented that I really have so many dresses, & that I really love wearing dresses – haha yea I really do love dresses & I love wearing them too!!

As for Wang Jing, she has never worn dresses before cos she felt that she was too fat & dresses wouldn’t be nice on her at all. Besides, her boyfriend often told her that she was fat & so she dared not wear dresses at all!

However that morning when she saw me in this Purple dress, she changed her mind & told me that from then onwards, she would try to wear dresses!! Heehee I was so happy to hear her say that!! Wang Jing said that cos of my previous encouragements to her (for telling her that she was not fat at all but a very sweet pretty girl & dresses would be nice on her too etc), she was beginning to feel that she wana try to wear dresses cos she also wana look as pretty as me!! I was really happy for her then & was glad that I was of some help to her in this area heehee!!

So I hope Wang Jing, if you happen to be reading this right now in Beijing – that you’re happily wearing as many dresses as possible as you like, & are enjoying life’s beauty now!!

Below photo shows Changfeng Hotel Restaurant where we were supposed to have our breakfast that morning. However, cos of our so early checkout, Wang Jing arranged for our Breakfast to be packed & taken away with us.

Dear & I left Changfeng Hotel with Wang Jing at around 5.10am, in Sifu van, to travel to the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3.

We arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3, 2 hours before our 7.45am flight to Hong Kong. And Dear & I bidded farewell to Sifu & Wang Jing & thanked them for all the time spent with us in Beijing! 

And guess what, I’ve got stares from passers-by (mostly Chinese) at my dress to my shoes since I stepped into the Airport (in fact till later when I arrived in Hong Kong Airport too!), that I asked Dear if I’d worn my dress wrongly, or that I looked very ugly in my outfit?!! But based on their curious looks, we knew it was only cos they liked my Purple dress & Black shoes – haha so strange may be the Chinese ladies have never seen such a dress in Beijing?! I really wonder………

Anyway, after our luggages check-in, Dear & I went to the Airport’s Burger King to have our breakfast, the ones packed from Changfeng Hotel.

The Hotel staffs had forgotten that Wang Jing has told them the night before to prepare & pack our breakfast, so they rushed into packing them just before we were about to leave the Hotel.

Our Breakfast packs consisted of Fried Rice, Fried Noodles, & Tea Leaf Eggs (or “Cha Ye Dan” in Chinese), & some fresh Cherry Tomatoes - guess there were only these 4 items cos they were packed in a rush, & the Hotel kitchen chef must have not prepared & cooked all the other dishes yet!

However, these 4 items all tasted pretty good & we were happy enough )

Well, Dear took some bites of the Cha Ye Dan when I told him it was really nice & tasted just like normal hard-boiled eggs!! 

After breakfast, Dear & I walked to the Passenger Waiting Area to take the Airport Shuttle Train that would bring us to the Immigration Counters :

Dear & I waited for the longest time at the Immigration Counters cos there were very very long queues!! Once we got off the Airport Shuttle Train, all the passengers rushed & fled to the Counter queues & there were simply too many of us!! Dear & I were just walking leisurely to the Counters not knowing to “run” like others at all, not to mention as fast as them!! Haha!! So we both ended up behind too long a queue!!

Passengers kept coming in from the Shuttle Train rides, yet there were only 2 or 3 Counters opened, making the queues much longer & our turn much later to be reached!! Dear & I both felt such was a silly design of the Airport, & unless they open up more or all the Counters come the Beijing Olympics period, we’re sure many would definitely complain!!

Shortly after take-off, Dear & I went straight into the in-flight entertainment Movies – Dear’s favourite pastime during flying!!

Soon afterwards it was time for our in-flight meals – my Chinese Dim Sum Set consisted of Chinese Noodles, Pork Bao, Ha Gau & Siew Mai, with fresh Fruits, Yogurt & Bun :

Dear’s was a Western Set with Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Harsh Brown, Broccoli & Mushrooms, besides the Bun & Desserts : 

My Chinese Set wasn’t too good cos the Dim Sums were kinda hard, but Dear’s Western Set was pretty nice – I liked the Mushrooms!!

Hey hey we’re already flying on top of Hong Kong!! Yes Yes Dear & I were both so excited about arriving in Hong Kong!! We both just love Hong Kong so much, especially its food!! Yummies Yummies here we come!!

Now, we can see Hong Kong very well – it was so beautiful from up where I was seated by the Window seat!!

Dear & I finally landed on Hong Kong International Airport after flying 3 hours from Beijing to Hong Kong - the time was 11.18 am, & the temperature at a warm 26 degrees celsius.

Dear & I were so happy & excited to be in Hong Kong again – it was our 3rd time visiting Hong Kong, or the 4th if considering our Hong Kong Transit on our way to Beijing a week ago!! Anyway, we just couldn’t wait to get out there to eat & shop & eat & shop!! Yippie Yippie!!!

After checking our of the Immigration Counters, Dear & I had to take the Airport Shuttle Train to our Luggage Belt :

And WOW WOW we were so surprised to see so many Indians among us in the Airport!! Even the whole train in which we were travelling was filled up with mostly the Indians – young & old – babies, grandma grandma, daughters, sons, students, teachers etc etc!!! I was telling Dear that we would definitely be expecting a whole Indian nation in the Hong Kong Disneyland the next day (Sunday) on which we would be visiting haha haha!!!

See the below huge Indian crowds who’d just alighted from the Shuttle train which we just rode in!! And there were more already gone up the escalator, & more still coming from behind!!

Dear & I soon met up with our Hong Kong Travel agent who confirmed our Hotel transfer pickup time & venue. And looking that we still had some time to spare before our departure to the Hotel, I went shopping of course, in the following Hong Kong DIsneyland Shop :

And I bought the following Disneyland Key Rings for Mom, Dear & myself - so happy so happy!!

Dear & I later walked to the Airport’s Sky Plaza where I window shopped a little more!

And hey!! There’re the Olympics Fuwa – heehee so glad to see them again cos I was beginning to miss them already upon leaving Beijing!!

But hey, we didn’t know that there’s the following Equestrain Fuwa in town!! Yes, Dear & I knew that the Olympics Equestrain events would be held in Hong Kong, but we never knew that there’s this Cow Fuwa riding Horse (called “Ma Su” in Chinese)!!

We’ve never seen the “Ma Su” Fuwa in Beijing or in Hong Kong at all!! Or else, we would love to bring it home with us too, to keep our below Huanhuan & Mama company!!

In fact, Dear & I never got to see any of the Beijing Olympics Fuwa or any of its other merchanises in our next 3 days staying in Hong Kong, which was really a surprise to us! Luckily we’ve already bought quite enough of the Olympics Souvenirs from Beijing. But then it would be even nicer if we could also find & buy more from Hong Kong too!!

It was our last night in Beijing as we checked into Changfeng Hotel, a 4-star Garden-style Business Hotel located in Fengtai District, Beijing.

Dear & I had gone from Beijing for 2 days to visit Tianjin & Chengde, & were back to Beijing for our last night’s stay, before flying to Hong Kong the next morning.

Stepping into our Room in Changfeng Hotel – it was a pretty small room, but very clean, nice & cosy, with very comfortable beds!! And it even has a plasma TV – how Cool!!

Soon after, Dear & I went out again cos we wanted to go shopping & eating!!! YES YES how could we just stay inside our Room on our LAST night in Beijing!! Of course we had to go out & had some fun!!

In order not to get lost, but more cos my Mom never fails to remind us to take Hotel name cards with their addresses on them whenever we were to go out exploring on our own in foreign countries, so that we won’t get lost etc etc - Dear & I took the following Changfeng Hotel name cards on which we got the Hotel Receptionist to write down the Chinese words of the place ”Shun Si Tiao”, & the Shopping Mall ”Gui You Da Sa” which we would be going!

Dear & I spent some time window shopping inside ”Gui You Da Sa”, after which we decided to walk towards the left side of the outside Street, hoping to find more places to shop & explore : 

And we came across this below 4-storey Mall so Dear & I excitedly checked it out!!

We shopped till the shops inside the 4-storey Mall closed at 8.30pm (from 7.30pm), & I bought the following Bag & Shoes – I needed these Shoes badly cos the weather was changing & becoming warmer & less cold, & cos during that day & night & in some places I visited during the last 1 day, the Chinese actually stared at me & looked me up & down as though I was an Alien from some kind of weird nation, not cos of my Red hair, but cos I was wearing Boots!! So I decided that no matter what, I must find normal Shoes to wear asap!! And I was lucky I managed to find the below very comfortable & pretty Shoes!

We next walked to Carrefour which was just a very short distance away, beside the 4-storey Shopping Mall :

I bought the following 3 sets of beautiful outfits from Carrefour for my Mom. These pants suits originally cost about 400 Yuans each, but I got them at an incredible sales of only 99 Yuans!! The Materials are really soft & good, their designs are lovely with glittering flowers & colored shinny beads, & best of all, they’re non-grease too!! Hahaha I couldn’t believe my luck!! And happiest of all, Mom loves them so much & get so many compliments from neighbours & friends whenever she’s wearing them, making herself so so proud heehee!!

And Dear got the below hooded Coca Cola Sweater – we’re both great lovers of Coca Cola drinks!!!

Dear & I were walking along the stretch of Street full of Restaurants & Eateries, when I decided we stopped & have our supper in the following Restaurant!!

Guess I chose this particular Restaurant cos it was the biggest & most elegant of all in the Street haha!!

And it so happened that this beautiful Restaurant is a famous Restaurant – I was so so smart ha!!

It’s called “The Single Place” (or “Duyichu” in Chinese), built in the 3rd year of the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. With a history of 260 years, this Resturant has become one of the 1st-grade State Restaurants! Wow Wow how lucky we were to find this Restaurant!!!

Dear & I were so happy to see that there’s a fake replica Peking Duck on display at the Restaurant’s main entrance!! Heehee just nice cos we intended to eat Peking Duck again!!

Nice grand Restaurant, with elegant Rosewood Chinese furnitures, with red Silk seat Cushions for the chairs, which looked exactly like what my parents used to have in their former house!! Very beautiful!

The Restaurant’s signature dish is the Steamed Dumplings (which they also call Stuffed Buns in “Duyichu” style) - the culinary flavour of Shandong & Beijing.

Such unique pretty Steamed Dumplings that look like Flowers blooming!!

There’re even colorful Steamed Dumplings – so gorgeous!!

And of course when Dear asked which type of the Steamed Dumplings I’d like to have, I picked the most colorful ones!

Well, Dear & I had initially wanted to order the Restaurant famous Peking Duck, but unfortunately we had to call off the idea cos it would take us 45 mins for it to be ready!! So we ordered the following Smoked Baby Pigeon with Soy Sauce instead! So cheap cost only 32 Yuan!

We also ordered the following Braised Pork!

Our Smoked Baby Pigeon with Soy Sauce – it was served whole & even with its head :

The Pigeon, though tiny, was very well prepared – its flavour is slightly like soy sauce stewed Duck but it’s got its own pigeon taste which was really yummy & tasty!!

Both Dear & I loved the Pigeon alot we finished the whole baby (poor baby) within minutes, leaving behind just its poor tiny little head on the Lettuce! It was really delicious!!

Next came our huge plate of Braised Pork, served with their half bare bones, & with Fried Squarish Buns & some kind of milky flavoured Sauce for dipping :

The Pork was slightly crispy on the outside but tender inside – they were really marinated well cos they tasted really nice!

And the Fried Buns were also very very nice – the best Fried Buns we’d ever eaten!!

And eating the Pork with the Buns together were simply a great joy!!  

Dear was so happy & smiling all the way when tucking into the sticks of Pork!!

Then we had the following double-colored Steamed Dumplings (or Stuffed Buns in “Duyichu” style) :

The Dumplings were served steaming hot & they were really huge!!

They looked so beautiful like blooming Flowers I couldn’t really bear to eat or even touch them haha!!

They were stuffed with minced Pork & Prawns, besides other ingredients, & they were really juicy, fresh & so so yummy!!

Dear & I had never eaten anything so beautiful & so delicious like these Dumplings & I can even remember its great taste as though it’s still lingering in my mouth right now!!

YUMMY YUMMY Cuisines!!!!

As there was this below Chinese Rice Dumpling Advertisement lying on our dining table, Dear & I decided to order 2 Rice Dumplings for sampling. Besides, the Dumpling Festival (or “Duan Wu Jie” in Chinese) was fast approaching then, & I’d also wanted to see how the China Rice Dumplings taste like heehee!!

Here come our 2 Rice Dumplings – stuffed in Red Beans Paste, & Pork. They look kinda big here but actually they were much smaller than the normal sized dumplings we normally eat in Singapore.

Dear & I enjoying ourselves feasting on the food, with an extra huge bottle of Sprite to go with our Cuisines!! Haha no wonder both of us are so fat!!

Some of the leftover Bones from the Pork!! Dear & I managed to finish all the 9 huge Pork sticks, the 10 Fried Bun, as well as all the 10 big Steamed Dumplings!! My gracious goodness lord!! We actually could eat these much!!! And cos they were just so delicious we both couldn’t bear to leave any single piece to waste!! Hahahah!!

But well, cos Dear & I were both already so so full, we could not imagine eating more – not to mention any Rice Dumpling – that would be terrible!! So we had our 2 Dumplings packed & taken away with us :

Dear & I really had the most wonderful meal in Beijing!! We both enjoyed the great food tremendously & they only cost us a total of 156 Yuans, which is equivalent to about 31 Singapore dollars!! Unbelievable!! That was really so cheap, considering that the food was really fantastic, the Restaurant was so nice with beautiful atmosphere, & the services from the waitresses so prompt & good too!! What’s more - it’s a famous State Restaurant!!

What a great last night in Beijing!! Dear & I had so much fun exploring the Streets of Beijing, people watching the locals going about their daily lives eating & shopping & doing groceries together after knocking off work! And we had so much fun shopping too, if only we had more time to visit more Shopping Malls haha!!

Well, Dear & I packed our luggages a little, putting in all our newly purchased items from our earlier shopping, & continued to chit chat while watching the Plasma TV programmes, till the early wee hours of dawn lying in this Room, before we dozed off!!

Haha, we could only sleep for a mere 2 to 3 hours cos we had to check out of Changfeng Hotel by 4.30am the next morning to catch our 7.45am flight to Hong Kong!! Good night Beijing!!
